Welcome to the new look GMS issue four! This has been a labour of love – since issue three, I’ve relocated to the UK from Dubai. The transition wasn’t easy, moving back mid-pandemic was far from ideal. But I made it back when travel restrictions were lifted and flights resumed. With so much time at home, it gave me the perfect opportunity to create and shoot some exciting new recipes.
It’s hard to ignore the endless news coverage of the cost-of-living crisis, so in this issue, I’ve been mindful of increasing food costs when creating new recipes. Many supermarket chains have introduced offers and deals, so you can shop for great ingredients at pocket-friendly prices. My ‘Midweek Meal Deals’ do just that. With clever use of the latest in-store deals, most dishes come in from £2.96 per person.
Like many through the lockdown, online ordering was the way forward in terms of fresh ingredients and online retailer HelloFish was my go-to for fresh fish. I was asked to develop a series of recipes for their website and social media. They include a spicy gochujang octopus stir-fry, Thai spiced mussels and a delicious Maldivian fish curry that will have your taste buds singing.
Love food and hate waste? Me too! I’ve recently been volunteering at The Felix Project, an East London-based food bank. There are more and more people struggling these days to put food on the table, so I’ve shared some simple hacks, tips and guidance to make the most of your weekly shop.
I’ve also tried and tested some great kitchen hacks, ‘TikTok Made Me Do It’. The dishwasher tip is a game changer – you’ll thank me for it! And finally, do you love cheese as much as I do? Then join me on p48, where I take an epic tour of some of the French cheese producing heavyweights, from Annecy to Lyon. I’ve never eaten so much delicious fromage!
